Today’s Harvest

There it is. Our very first egg from our laying hens. I don’t even want to crack it open because it’s the first one! Silly I know, it can’t last forever after all.
I thought I’d pick a few tomatoes and peppers for dinner tonight. The garden is in full production now. I fear next week will be spent in the kitchen. I may not resurface until October.
I talked with my friend whose family runs an orchard. I’ve reserved my customary 40 boxes of eating/freezing peaches. So if you’re local and reading this let me know if you want some. They are $12 a box this year and I will pick them up the weekend school starts. I also reserved some Lemon Elberta canning peaches. They won’t be ready until mid to late September. They are $15 a box.

Your garden produce looks way better than ours this year, wow I am totally impressed and covetous. My husband said it’s because this is the third year in a row for our garden and we haven’t added manure or some such fertilizer as of yet. Do you think that’s it?
His parents always used chicken manure.

I would have to agree with your husband. We’ve been adding turkey, sheep, and cow manure for a couple of years along with mulch hay (black, moldy leftover hay from the stackyard). This is the best our garden has ever produced.
