Black Cat Cookies
Posted on30. Oct, 2009 by Kate.
My Aunt Pat made these a few years ago and was kind enough to give me the recipe. They are super easy and look oh so Halloweenish.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 cup peanut butter
2 eggs
1/3 cup water
1 pkg. chocolate cake mix
plain M&M’s
red cinnamon candies
Preheat oven to 375°.
In a medium bowl, beat together peanut butter, eggs, and [...]

Goodbye Baxter
Posted on28. Oct, 2009 by Kate.
Baxter died after a terrible accident tonight and we had to say goodbye, so I thought I’d post a few pictures. It helped my children to sort through the photos and find pictures of their friend. Here he is trying to get a better look at the three new piglets.
He followed Nate up and down [...]

Posted on19. Oct, 2009 by Kate.
I stood in the bathroom hurriedly pulling half my youngest daughter’s hair into a lopsided ponytail when Nate walked in, kissed me goodbye, and said, “I don’t know what you made, but it tastes like chalk.”

Last January I tagged along with my husband to his business conference in Provo so I could do some clearance shopping. On my second day there I browsed a Deseret Book store without any children. For the first time in ten years, I was free to read the back cover of any book I chose. [...]

Moving Cows
Posted on13. Oct, 2009 by Kate.
Nate and Lisle saddle the horses to go find the cows.
We moved some cows from one pasture to another on Saturday. Apparently, our cows were feeling a bit social and broke through the fence to mingle with the neighbor’s cows. Once all the cows were rounded up, there was a bit of sorting to do [...]

Imagination at Work: Cattail Bombs
Posted on12. Oct, 2009 by Kate.
Moving cows has its down times. My son and his cousin entertained themselves with the cattails growing alongside the road.
“Look Mom! It’s a bomb.”
Who needs video games for blowing things up when you’ve got cattails?

Karen Jones Gowen
Posted on07. Oct, 2009 by Kate.
Karen Jones Gowen is the author of two recently published books. Her bio reads, “Karen Jones Gowen is a graduate of Brigham Young University and mother of ten. Born and raised in Central Illinois, she and her husband now live in South Jordan, Utah.” It’s these three words that intrigue me: mother of ten. Maybe [...]

Beef Pot Pie
Posted on06. Oct, 2009 by Kate.
My older sister introduced our family to this recipe years ago. My husband likes it because the crust reminds him of Yorkshire Pudding–his favorite side dish with roast beef. No, a potato is not a side dish when roast is served. It is an extension of the roast. So I’ve been trained. By my husband.
I [...]

Tradition

Twice a year I make crepes for breakfast–Sunday morning of General Conference. Thanks to our laying hens, we had plenty of eggs this year. I made a triple batch.
This is how much batter I had left when the munchkins finished eating.
I usually use two pans. This year I used three–and I actually kept up with [...]
