THANKS, THANKS, THANKS, everyone for your fabulous support of my crazy little blog. I giggled, I laughed, I giggled some more. So much fun. So don’t all of  you fade back into commentless reading.

I got up at 6 AM this morning and rushed around getting ready to leave for the Farmers Market by 7 AM. I never even checked Karen’s blog. Now she’s an early Saturday riser–she posted the winner at 5:46 AM!

And the winner is David J. West. His book Heroes of the Fallen is available for preorder on Amazon.com.

MORE IMPORTANTLY THE COMMENT WINNER HERE IS (drawn at random using Excel):

#31 KAREN H @Jenni – my mom has gluten intolerance as well. Making food for her when she comes over is interesting. You have to be careful which type of “flour” you use to replace the wheat flour because each one has its own unique properties. I don’t envy you the fun you had to make up that menu. ;-)

How apropos that a Karen wins since a Karen sponsored this contest.

Karen H., you can see your choice of books here. Let me know which one you want and I’ll get it to you.

I had some readers who went above and beyond the call of duty to encourage others to comment. Karen H. was one of those so I’m so glad she won.

I’m also giving the Jenni K.H. (not to be confused with Jenni H.H.–so glad I know the maiden names!) a book of her choice as well. She dug up old college friends I haven’t heard from in more than fifteen years–amazing! Also, I’m pretty sure you have significantly more than three blog readers. Give me your first and second choice.

Also, my sister Shandrae drove about fifteen new readers to my site so she may also choose a book. Give me a first, second, and third choice.

And because I was so overwhelmed with the incredible response from all of you, I’m giving away one more book from a random drawing (Excel again). And the last comment winner is:

#42 JANE 100% whole wheat has it’s issues.
But I’m with the commenter who asked how Nate knows what chalk tastes like…hee hee.
And does he have seconds even though it tastes like chalk?

Apparently this is not the Jane I thought she was. (Sorry about all the teasing about not posting. I should really check identities before I give someone a hard time in a public forum.) Jane even posted twice despite my misguided teasing which just goes to show how much she truly deserves to win a book. Jane, email me your book choice along with your mailing address!

Thanks to everyone. You are the best! Be sure to check back Monday for an interview with Frank L. Cole author of The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters. If you have children, his book is a must read.

And now here is ADVENTURES WITH WHOLE WHEAT (PART 1)

Once the kids were off to school the morning of the chalk pancakes (yes pancakes, not muffins) I sent out a desperate email to friends and family. Here it is in it’s entirety.

pancakes

So this morning I told Nate I would mix up the pancakes and asked him to cook them since it’s crazy hair day for Red Ribbon Week and I knew I would be doing hair. So I’m imagining everyone saying, “Wow Mom, you finally found a good pancake recipe. These are really good.” Life can’t be exactly what we imagine, though.

I was upstairs finishing my daughter’s hair when Nate came up and said, “I don’t know what you made, but it tastes like chalk.” He kissed me goodbye and left. My daughter then wasn’t hungry at all. (She’s not a big breakfast eater anyway.) I put all the kids in the car and drove them to the bus stop–yeah we were late. So after some further adventures with my son realizing he didn’t have his backpack and me driving back to get it and our new dog Patches sitting first behind the Tahoe and refusing to move and then trotting SLOWLY in front of it all the way back to the bus stop with me yelling at him out the window and driving back home BREATHE I just cooked myself some of the pancakes and guess what? They taste like chalk.

So if anyone knows any good wheat pancake recipes, please send them my way. I’d really like to not repeat this morning again.

Thanks,

Katrina

And now is when I repeat: Nate was right. He’s always right. When will I ever learn?

(Remember those words from the end of this post?)
